Cone beam computed tomography is the state of the art of dental and maxillofacial imaging, and its applications in the dental domain are flourishing every day. On the other side, most of dentists; general practitioners, and specialists are willing and eager to use such outstanding technology in all possible dental branches. Nevertheless, they should have not only adequate scientific background about its fundamentals but also clear and defined strategies in order to use cone beam technology effectively and safely. The main goal of this lecture is to clarify various strategies in dealing with CBCT scans that enable dentists with different concerns to use it in the best possible approach. The lecture also highlights the problems that faces the majority of CBCT users, and emphasizes the available solutions for most of them. Moreover, it draws a simple outline in communication between dental practitioners and oral radiologists regarding this shared diagnostic tool. Finally, this lecture will help the dentists move to the next level in dealing with cone beam computed tomography in their routine dental practice.
